how can you help ?
Financially
If you are a UK taxpayer, and make any donation through Gift Aid, the Inland Revenue will add onto your donation the tax that you have already paid - in other words, for every £10 you give, the Nursery gets £12.80. Anyone who wishes to donate should fill in the giving form.
Regular Gift Aid donations (formerly covenants) are vital because they provide a regular income to pay the regular bills: salaries of the staff, and materials and food for the children. Regular donations mean stability for the project now as well as the ability to plan ahead. All those generous enough to donate will receive a bi-monthly newsletter all about the project whilst they remain interested.
Alternatively you can make a donation on-line with your credit card, or even get your friends and relatives to sponsor you for an event by going to: www.bmycharity.com/westnell
Buy a Book and help Westnell Nursery
Alison Spicer has written a book of stories about the life of Peruvian children in the Andes, and is donating £2 from the sale of every book to the Westnell Nursery Society.
The beautifully illustrated stories focus on a fictional character called Pablo Poncho and are aimed at children aged from 3 to 7. The book is bright and attractive and makes a really different kind of story for children of this age. You can make a purcahse directly from the website or can send a cheque. Please indicate on your order you learnt about the books from the Westnell Nursery site - that will gurantee we receive the commission from Alison!
If you are looking for a gift for a child this age please visit www.pabloponcho.com to find out more.
Actively?
Unfortunately, the nature of the work in Peru, and our small base in the UK does not allow us to 'vet' potential volunteers for work in Lima, and we consider it vital that our primary work, that of the teachers in the shantytowns, can continue undistracted. For that reason, we do not take unsolicited volunteers for work overseas. We are, however, in constant need for volunteers to support our UK-based work, particularly in your area of the UK or internationally.
This work could include:
- Assisting in collation and distribution of our annual sale of Christmas Cards in the UK or abroad.
- Raising money in their locality through sponsored events
- Donating direct to Westnell
- Raising the profile of Westnell as a charity worthy of support in their locality.
If you feel that you can offer active assistance in any of these areas, we would love to hear from you. Contact Us
